What does stamped concrete involve, and what drives the price?
Stamped concrete is regular poured concrete that we color and press with rubber mats while it's still soft, then seal, so your South El Monte patio, walkway or driveway looks like stone, brick, wood or tile while staying one solid slab underneath.
Most calls I get start with a gray patio or driveway that's worn out its welcome, and the first question is whether to pour new or stamp over what's there. The price moves with the size of the area, whether the old slab has to come out, the pattern and colors you pick and how much base work the spot needs. The schedule turns on that same tear-out, on whether the work touches the street and needs a city sign-off, and on curing, the wait while fresh concrete hardens before you can use it. If you'd rather have a smooth colored finish than a pattern, our decorative concrete work covers that, and either way your estimate is where you get the real number for your yard.
How do you know it's time for stamped concrete, or a reseal?
Plain slab, still solid
Your patio or walk is gray, stained and a little sad, but it's flat and any cracks are hairline. That's usually a good candidate for stamping over, and the longer the surface wears, the more prep it takes before we can.
Wide cracks or sunken sections
If a section has dropped or a crack is wide enough to catch a heel, the trouble is usually in the base, not the surface. Stamping over it won't fix that, and waiting lets water get underneath and make the sinking worse.
Stamped color gone dull
On stamped concrete you already have, a flat, faded look or water that soaks in instead of beading up means the sealer has worn off. Leave it too long and the surface starts taking in stains and losing color faster.

Our stamped concrete work, from the base up
On an old slab, I check its shape first, and if it's cracked through or sinking I'll tell you straight that it needs to come out, because a pattern pressed over a bad slab just gets you a fancier crack. For a new pour we dig out and pack the subgrade, the dirt the slab sits on, set the forms to the thickness the job calls for, thicker where cars drive, and lay rebar, the steel inside that holds the slab together, sized to how you'll use it. We check where the water runs so the slab sheds away from your house, pour early so midday heat doesn't dry the top too fast and leave it weak and dusty later, then color it, press the mats in while it's soft and cut control joints, shallow grooves that give the concrete a planned place to crack instead of one it picks. Here's the trade-off I bring up on every stamped job. The base is the part nobody sees on day one, so it's the first thing people want to trim, and it's the last place I'd save money, because a nice pattern on a settling base doesn't stay nice. Before we wrap up, we talk about sealing and when it'll want redoing.
Stamped work usually sits next to other concrete, so we look at that too. If the walk out front is crumbling, our concrete sidewalk building work can give you a new one that lines up with a stamped patio or border, and if we're stamping the driveway, it's a good time to check the slab inside with our garage floor concrete work, since the two meet at the door.
New stamped slab
Best when there's no slab yet, or the old one is cracked through or sinking, because we get to build the base, thickness and steel for how you'll use the space. It's the bigger job, but it starts from good ground.
Stamped overlay on old concrete
Suits a patio, walkway or pool deck you'd rather not tear out, since a thin layer gets colored and stamped right on top of the old surface. Skipping the demolition and haul-away usually makes it the quicker job.

What happens after you call us about stamped concrete?
Here's how a stamped job goes from your first call to the final walkthrough, and what you'll have in hand before you decide anything.
Call or send a message
Call (626) 719-0110 or use the form, and we'll get back to you to set a time. If you can, send a rough size of the area and photos of any concrete that's there now.
I come out and measure
I look at your slab, measure, and we talk through patterns, colors and how you'll use the space. Your estimate spells out the job and the price, so you know what it costs before you commit to anything.
We pour, stamp and walk through
If a permit applies we handle it, and under the city's encroachment permit the forms get inspected at least 24 hours before any concrete goes in, then my crew and I pour, stamp and seal. Before we pack up, I go over the finished job with you, including how long to stay off it while it cures.
Why South El Monte homeowners call us for stamped concrete
Same person, estimate to walkthrough
I come out to every estimate myself, and my crew and I do the work. The person who heard what you want is there when the mats go down, so you're not explaining your patio twice.
In business since 2023
We've been at it since 2023, and I learned the trade finishing concrete next to guys who'd done it for years and asking a lot of questions. These days I'm happy to answer yours, because that's how the pattern ends up matching what you pictured.
Licensed and fully insured
We're licensed and fully insured, the same things the city looks for in a contractor working along the street. It's fair to ask anyone you hire for concrete to show you both before they start.
Right permit office for your address
Some cities we work in have their own permit counters and some areas go through the county. We check with the right office for your address, so the paperwork doesn't hold up your pour.
Concrete is hard to undo once it's poured, so I'd rather answer every question before the truck shows up, and our work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Send us a message or call (626) 719-0110 to set up a visit.
Stamped patios, driveways and curb work in South El Monte
If your stamped job reaches the curb, the city sidewalk or the part of the driveway out by the street, the City of South El Monte's Public Works department issues an encroachment permit for work in that public strip. Its list names driveways, curbs, gutters and yard drains but not stamped concrete, so it doesn't settle every stamped job either way, and when yours touches that strip we check with Public Works before planning the pour. If a permit applies, we pull it and set up the inspection. The city also requires a contractor working under that permit to hold the right state license, a city business license and the insurance it asks for.
Around here we mostly see older driveways and backyard patios that have taken a lot of sun, plus hot, dry afternoons that can dry the top of fresh concrete too fast, so we pour early and keep the surface from drying out while it cures. We deal with the same tired slabs and summer heat on jobs in El Monte and Rosemead.
Stamped concrete questions from South El Monte homeowners
How much does stamped concrete cost in South El Monte?
Stamped concrete in the Los Angeles area usually costs about $15 to $30 per square foot, and that's the market's range, not our price. Where your job lands depends on what I see and measure at the visit, and the estimate gives you the number for your own yard.
How do I know if my old concrete patio can be stamped over instead of replaced?
If the old concrete is in reasonably good shape, a stamped overlay can go right over it with no tear-out. Large cracks, a lot of spalling, which is the top flaking off in chips, or a slab that's settled badly may mean it needs replacing, so someone who knows concrete should check it's sound before you commit. I'll look at yours and tell you which one it is.
What is the best way to color a stamped concrete driveway?
Color hardener is the common choice for driveways and anything that takes traffic, because it gives the slab a harder top skin. The catch is that its color only sits in that top layer, so a deep chip shows gray concrete underneath. It also has to be spread and floated on evenly or the color comes out blotchy, which is a fair thing to ask any crew about.
How often does stamped concrete need to be resealed?
Reseal it when it needs it, mainly when water stops beading up and the color looks flat, not on a set schedule. Sealing more often than that builds up on the surface, and that buildup takes a lot of time and money to strip off, so I'll show you what to watch for.
How do I keep a stamped patio or pool deck from being slippery?
Ask for a nonskid additive in the sealer, which is what one concrete guide suggests, either mixed in or as part of the sealer system. It's worth bringing up for pool decks, steps and any spot that stays wet, and we can go over it at the estimate.
Do I need a licensed contractor for a small stamped concrete job in California?
Almost always, because California's minor work exemption only covers jobs under $1,000 that need no permit, done by someone with nobody working for them. The state licenses concrete contractors to form, pour, finish and install flatwork, the flat slabs like patios, walks and driveways, and most stamped jobs land well past that limit.
Concrete work that pairs with a stamped job
Concrete sidewalk building
When the path from the street or driveway to your door is cracked or heaved, a new walkway can be poured to meet the stamped area cleanly.
Garage floor concrete
Redoing the driveway is a good moment to look at the slab inside the garage, since the two meet at the door and should line up for height and drainage.
